The ADF-12 works to adapt a BRK model smoke alarm to a Firex / Kidde model smoke alarm. As long as you have an adapter plug, all First Alert / BRK models will work as direct replacements with any Firex models. Similarly, the allows you to interconnect a Kidde device with a circuit of BRK and First Alert alarms.

Large homes, offices spaces, and multilevel buildings will also benefit from the convenience of an additional smoke alarm accessory, called a relay device. Relay devices such as those manufactured by Kidde and are available through ImproveDepot for less than $20. These convenient relay devices ensure that smoke detection or carbon monoxide anywhere in the system alerts all of the devices. That means that if there is fire on the fourth floor of a building, the smoke alarms on the floors above and below will receive the signal, and trigger the alert.
